What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects focus, self-control, and emotional regulation. While everyone experiences occasional difficulty concentrating or moments of impulsiveness, for those with ADHD, these symptoms are persistent and can significantly impact daily life. ADHD can often make it difficult to meet academic or professional goals, maintain relationships, and manage emotions effectively.
Key Symptoms of ADHD

-
Inattention: Difficulty sustaining focus, following instructions, or organising tasks.
-
Hyperactivity: Excessive movement, fidgeting, or difficulty staying seated.
-
Impulsivity: Acting without thinking, interrupting conversations, or struggling to wait one’s turn.
While ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood, many adults discover they have ADHD later in life as they encounter challenges in the workplace or with personal relationships.

What Are the Different Types of ADHD?
ADHD is classified into three primary types, reflecting the diversity of symptoms individuals may experience:

-
Predominantly Inattentive Presentation
Individuals with this subtype often appear forgetful or easily distracted. They may have difficulty staying organised, completing tasks, or listening attentively. -
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation
Those with this type tend to exhibit restlessness and impulsive behaviours. This can include constant fidgeting, interrupting others, or struggling to remain still. -
Combined Presentation
This is the most common subtype, where individuals exhibit a mix of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms, requiring a comprehensive approach to therapy.
Our Approach To ADHD Therapy
At A Stone's Throw Therapy we take a personalised collaborative and empathic approach to clients who are struggling with ADHD-related challenges. This ensures that you will receive the tailored approach you need.
Therapy offered is an integrative-based approach. Sessions are interactive & draw on experience in Attachment, Systemic, Transactional Analysis, and Person-Centered Therapy. In sessions, Mind-Body, Somatic, and Mindfulness-Based led practice, in addition to Creative Therapy practices can be used to process body and cognitive responses to ADHD symptoms. This can be undertaken in conjunction with talking therapy.
All of these techniques and practices are individualised, recognising that each person experiences themselves differently and may need or want different support.
The overall aim is to empower understanding and address unhelpful or damaging thought patterns or behaviours.
Benefits of Online Therapy for ADHD
Online therapy for ADHD offers a flexible and effective approach to managing the unique challenges of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. We understand that ADHD can affect many areas of life, from relationships to academic and professional performance. Online counselling provides a modern solution that makes professional support accessible and impactful.
Here are the key benefits of online therapy for ADHD:

Improved Time Management
Struggling with time management is a common challenge for individuals with ADHD. Online therapy can help clients develop practical strategies to better prioritise tasks, structure their schedules, and meet deadlines, ultimately reducing the stress associated with poor time management.

Increased Self Awareness
Understanding one’s symptoms, triggers, and coping mechanisms is vital for managing ADHD effectively. Therapy sessions encourage clients to explore their behaviours and thought patterns, fostering greater self-awareness and empowering them to take control of their actions.

Improved Decision Making
ADHD can make decision-making feel impulsive or overwhelming. Through therapy, clients learn techniques to weigh options, evaluate consequences, and make thoughtful decisions that lead to positive outcomes.

Enhanced Organisation
ADHD often leads to difficulties in staying organised. Through online counselling, clients learn effective techniques to create and maintain systems for managing their personal and professional responsibilities, helping them feel more in control of their lives.

Enhanced Problem Solving
Navigating daily challenges is a part of life, but for individuals with ADHD, these can feel overwhelming. Therapy equips clients with problem-solving tools to approach obstacles more confidently and effectively.

Better Academic and Work Performance
For students and professionals, ADHD can impact focus and productivity. Therapy provides targeted strategies to enhance concentration, minimise distractions, and maximise efficiency, leading to improved performance and greater success.

Strengthened Social Skills
Online therapy can support individuals in developing stronger communication and listening skills, essential for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Whether at home, school, or work, improved social skills can significantly enhance quality of life.

Greater Coping Skills
Stress and frustration are common for those living with ADHD. Online therapy focuses on building robust coping mechanisms, helping clients manage stress and other emotional challenges with greater resilience.

Reduced Anxiety and Depression
ADHD often coexists with anxiety and depression. Online therapy provides a safe space to address these additional challenges, helping clients manage their mental health more effectively and improve their overall well-being.
